Keep Clayoquot Wild!

ACTION ALERT 19 May 2010

Rally in Vancouver at Imperial AGM

Catface Mountain as seen from
Tofino’s First Street DockImperial Metals may decide in the next year or two whether to apply for a huge open-pit copper mine in the heart of Clayoquot Sound! A mine would blast off the top of Catface Mountain — a location highly visible from Tofino and the other communities of Clayoquot. Copper mines are some of the worst polluting mines, so there’s a lot more than just the view at stake.

If you didn't make it to our May 19th rally, there's still something you can do.

Please write the president of Imperial Metals. Tell Mr. Kynoch that an open-pit mine in the Clayoquot Sound UNESCO Biosphere Reserve is a risky investment and would tarnish his company's reputation. Tell him Imperial has picked just about the most inappropriate and contentious spot in Canada for a mine. Recognized globally as a rare and endangered ecosystem, Clayoquot Sound is no place for open-pit mining!

If you want to incorporate more information about the potential Catface mine into your message, you can check the fact sheet (PDF, 18k).

Please forward this to your friends and help keep an open-pit copper mine out of Clayoquot Sound!
